Left nothing but memories
1 month into internship and I miss …
- sitting at the benches, at the lift lobby, washing my eyes
- being in the midst of gossips from the many tables in FC6
- climbing the ‘Stairway to Heaven’, be it the legendary Hill or not
- buying Zappel from the dispensing machine when the teh peng is not up to standard
- Kartini Auntie’s trademark line – “Ahhh, lai what you want?”
In the past few days, I was swallowed by this reality called ‘internship’. In layman’s term, work. Everyday, I wake up at 7am and got home only around 8.30pm. In between I’ll be busy with my scandal, Ms Lappie, while my colleagues are engrossed with their work.
So when Ms Nga visited me just last Wednesday, I suddenly felt like a student once more. Wait, let me rephrase that. I realized that I was still a student. I felt that I had so much to tell her but I had to make full use of my summary skills to condense 4 weeks worth of stories to 30 minutes.
Daaannggg. She still hasn’t changed much. And I bet the same goes to the other lecturers who are snuggling in their own cribs. The year 2s are busy with MPP now and I can still remember vividly the times when I was in the same exact shoes with Clique Media. And that is like 1 year ago? Shucks man. Time sure can fly fast.
To all my DMC peeps, I hope you are doing ay-okay in your own schools of hard knocks!
I guess my solace now is this little poem, created by my even more literally little lecturer, on my last day of school:
one of the most rewarding thing about being a teacher
is seeing your students grow up right before your eyes
from little baby birds unsure of their steps
to soaring eagles ready to take on the world
the sense of pride is truly indescribableso when you leave tomorrow
it’s not goodbye
becauseyou and i
will still keep in touch
through the years
via technology, old and newand i always look forward
to be introduced
to your significant other
and hopefully in time to come, lil’ versions of youso it’s not goodbye
we only part to meet againms kwa aka pingster
Note to self: Every time you think you have a bad day, there are others who are worse off than you.

No, it doesn’t work.
Some things you can’t make direct malay-2-english translation cos it will sound like really awkward.
Like “washing my eyes”.
For a while I thought you meant it literally. And then I realised hygiene of the cornea made no connection to the lift whatsoever. You cheat feeling ah.
alamak.. you too serious already ahh.. even my cheena friends know what’s wash eye (not the literal meaning of course) rilek ah! haha
