My predicted champions, Australia, is out of the World Cup! It is so cruel that they lost by a mere 2 points, and even more cruel is the way they lost the game. Or rather how England stole it from the Wallabies.

Clarke Quay is a great place to hangout, if I had the cash that is. The atmosphere is so different, and nightlife is so fun and happening down there. Anyway, I went pub-hoppping with Babe and her bestie, Reina, to catch the first quarter-finals between Australia and England.

With so many ang mohs around, I only got to differentiate the Aussie’s and the English by the word ‘mate’ that the former always use. They’re damn passionate people who will sing along as if they’re in the stadium itself, and don’t curse and swear as much as I had stereotyped them to.

But anyway regarding the game itself, to cut the 80-minutes game short, Johnny Wilkinson basically won the game single-handedly for England. And I hate that. England just relied on him to convert the penalties which then is… converted to points for them.

I wanna see tries yo! Side-steppings and fakes and switches and dummies and bursts down the flanks were little, if not non-existent.

England placed too much emphasis on willy ol’ Wilkinson, akin to their soccer team who relies quite a bit from Beckham to get their goals. So if in rugby there’s Wilkinson to covert penalties, then there’s Becks to score from free kicks in soccer.

England is pretty blessed, eh?

England won the last World Cup due to Wilkinson’s precise delivery from his set-pieces (and kicks). Will it be the same story this year? I hope not. ’cause my mom told me lightning will not strike at the same place twice.

But come to think of it, the tournament’s being played in France this year.

O’ Chabal! O’ Habana! O’ Rokocoko! O’ Carter! You are my best hopes for now…

(edited)

New Zealand lost 18-20 to France. *hangs head low* But what a quarter-final it was this time round.

We are not playing the All Blacks. We are playing New Zealand.

I love that quote from the French camp.
